Finding balance and unique beauty is what inspires and motivates me both in life and my work.  I have always liked making things. To take a pile of materials and to experiment with new ways of putting them together and turning them into something special and useful is very satisfying.

When I was 8 my grandmother taught me how to sew and cemented my love for textiles and clothing.  After going to school in Chicago and working for both small and large brands in New York i decided to come back to Minneapolis and start my own brand.  I wanted to step out of the fashion system and work on my own terms. I did not want to work on disposable things that just end up in landfills and I did not want to work with target markets based on gender, age and race. Instead I wanted to make things that I wanted to wear; that felt good, were well made and made people feel special regardless of how they identify.

To find balance I like to play with opposites.  I am very inspired by geometry and working with natural textiles.  The juxtaposition between the rigidity of geometry and the unpredictability and the evolving life of natural fibers creates a beautiful harmony.  I also like to find that beauty by mixing and blurring the lines between masculine/feminine, structured/draped, and finished/deconstructed.

I make very limited quantities of each piece, most of them being one of a kind. Everything is made by me in my Minneapolis studio. If you have any questions or would like to order a custom piece please email me scottjlehmann@gmail.com
